I used to flinch when unexpectedly touched & I'd wonder why, since it wasn't from fear.

Don't know if I would anymore--haven't been unexpectedly touched for ages cuz I stay home most of the time, alone. :-)s

Years ago, someone jumped out at me shouting "Boo!!" & I must have jumped at least a foot into the air. I'd been startled, but I hadn't been frightened....

I am 36 and was only diagnosed a few years ago but have been shaking for a few years prior to that. I'm still finding out more every day.

I also flinch sometimes when unexpectedly touched but didn't even put two and two together on that one until just reading this! thanks for the connection..

yes! I startle easily and it takes me hours to calm down. We recently went to see the movie Boewolf and things kept popping out at me, I was shaking so bad for several hours afterward I couldn't feed myself. Suzq

I rarely flinch. Probably never have. Nerves of steel in that sense, (or rather shakey steel, lol).I am in my 40s.

I am startled very easily. Sudden noises, jabs in the ribs and pats on the shoulder will make me jump out of my skin. As much as I hate to admit it I am frequently startled by my microwave once when I was even staring at it. Luckily most of my friends have come to expect me jumping and it gives us a cheap laugh.

Wow! I never connected jumping out of my skin with ET. I am so easily startled and my husband, children and grandchildren get a real charge out making me jump. Thanks again folks. Great information!

I always attributed my jumpiness to very quick reflexes. Never thought it had much to do with ET. It's been loads of fun for my family and friends also!

I figured I had quick reflexes, too, shaky64. Ha! what a joke on me.

Before I knew anything about E T, or that I had it, I once told a psychiatrist, whom I saw because of my strange shaking, that I physically react quickly, like a cat. LOL

Elsie, I also went the Psychiatrist route before learning I had ET. He is still probably thinking it is all in my head! Quack!!

That's funny. I wonder how many of us went the Phychiatrist route before learning what is wrong with us! Add me to the list. After I found this website (WEMove) and realized what my problem was, I went to my LAST Phychiatrist visit and asked him if he'd ever heard of Essential Tremor. He said I see it all the time! Then WHY didn't he tell me about it? Me thinks he liked my money. [Frown]

SunnySide, that psychiatrist said he sees it all the time? Sounds to me like the dummy gave away that he has many shaky patients who he KNOWS have E T, but he sure ain't gonna tell 'em. He lets 'em think it's all in their head. LOL!
