I am still able to drive. I do avoid driving long distances and in heavy traffic or at night. By being cautiious and responsible about it, I avoid putting myself or others at risk. On days I am very bad I don't drive at all. I have never had an accident or ticket. However, my license expires soon and I am nervous about getting it renewed. Social situations make me noticablely worse (you know how it is). Dh is on the road a lot and even if driving is limited, I need to be able to drive when I can. How many of you still drive? Did you have trouble getting your license renewed?

I drive our farm tractor really well. :-) Va-room!

No, honestly I've never had a problem with license renewal. I mean - it's just the vision test, and not much else. Or is it different in your state?

I don't like driving long distances/at night, just on principle. I especially don't like driving at night. But - the other day I drove 1 hour through the early morning darkness to get in line for my H1N1 shot. Got the shot, no problem with the driving (and I am going to be immune November 13. woo hoo!)

I have not had the issue of the driver's license renewal since I started having tremors, but I don't think it will be a problem. Here its mainly the eye exam and taking the "written" now computerized, test. I don't think driving will become an issue for me anytime soon. It better not, my job depends on it. Anyway, the worst I see is my neurologist having to fill out a form saying I can drive.

I don't have any problems with driving that could be attributed to ET. I now try to avoid driving at night, but that's only because of my sandblasted windshield. Once I replace it, I'll be back to night driving.

Mind you, I now limit myself to 5 hour trips. After that, I want a break. ET never seems to enter into the equation. Only fatigue or the need for a pit stop does.

The one thing I really wish I could have is a right-hand drive car. My left hand is steadier than is my right, so that would help a lot.

Once I hit my 80th birthday, the Ministry of Transportation will force me to undergo a test every couple of years. That will be a pain, but I guess it's a good idea.

WHEN I HAD TO TAKE A TEST TO GET MY FL LICENSE(MOVING FROM OHIO) I WAS WORRIED ABOUT THE HEAD AND HAND TREMORS, BUT THE MAN GIVING THE TEST THOUGHT I WAS NERVOUS AND JUST KINDA LAUGHED IT OFF AND TOLD ME TO TAKE SEVERAL DEEP BREATHS. AMAZINGLY THAT REALLY CALMED MY TREMOR. I NOW USE THE DEEP BREATHS TO CALM MY HEAD TREMOR WHEN I NEED A QUICK BRAKE. ANYWAY I PASSED, THEN THEY RENEW BY MAIL. I SUPPOSE AT SOME AGE I'LL HAVE TO TAKE A NEW DRIVING TEST, I'LL WORRY ABOUT THAT THEN. HELEN/FL

My right foot trembles a bit when I raise it from the accelerator. This actually worries me a bit, since most of what I've read about ET says that legs aren't affected. Do others have this problem?

My left leg trembles when in use. It has for several years. I think legs can be more affected than the information says.

Although my legs occasionally have a tremor when sitting upright, they never do so while driving.

Not a problem at all! I walked in, they had the apps in the hall, no one else was there so I could do the writing easily. She didn't even ask about my tremor and I was shaking like mad.

The thing that I dread most, is standing up there with my head bobbling all around, to get my picture made.I always try to explain that I have a neurological disorder, but my picture always comes out with it being so obvious that I was talking, because they couldn't care less. They snap it in the middle of my "speech" OHHHHHHHHHH, I hate it !!!!!!
I keep saying to myself, "the next time that I have to have this done, something great will have happened. I won't have tremors anymore" [Frown]

Does anyone ever have a good license picture? I don't have head tremor, but I swear they must have special training in taking horrid pictures!
