Is the orthostatic hypostenion of MSA a constant, or does it come and go? I have multiple neuro issues, including parkinsonism, an have this occasionally. This morning for instance my bp went from 120/80 to 80/60 when I stood up after taking a shower. It was like this for a while but then got better.

Yes your BP will vary but it does settle down after a while, as you have found out. Taking additional salt and caffeine may help to keep BP at a good level. Also, keeping your head raised in bed and if possible your legs/feet this is recommended. Whilst your BP will even out you still have the orthostatic hypotension so it is important to make sure you take it easy when getting up until it settles down.
My husband has MSA and what we have found is that for no reason his BP will "dip" below what is a ghood level for him - but he is in a wheelchair, and not likely to fall, so we just live with this.
Good wishes to you KR

Thanks, Mary, for this information. Does this problem vary from day to day for your husband? I know that it is much worse for me during my periods, as they are quite heavy and I have anemia to start with. So, it can be very bad for one week out of the month but not a problem the rest of the time. Is that typical of MSA? I hope not, as I really don't want to find out that I have this and have not pushed for testing to find out, either.
Best wishes to you and your husband, Ramona

Yes, it does, but there is no day when he is "free" from it. As the illness progresses it does get worse, but he is in a power chair so is not likely to fall. From what I have observed, it does affect balance and it is undoubtedly one of the early markers for MSA
