I'd been taking Mirapex with some success. I increased to 3 pills a night. I'd been having horrible coughing fits so much so that I'd gag and eventually heave up flegm. I couldn't pin it down until I had surgery and had been on pain killers and didn't need any meds for the rls. I hadn't thought about it but my coughing and whatnot had stopped. I stopped taking the pain killers and started the mirapex again and the first night all the symptoms came back. I was very congested in the head and somewhat in the lungs and my throught has been very sore from gagging and coughing.

I don't know if I had an allergy to that medication or if it was a side effect but the doc put me on requip .25 mg with the instructions to start with one and increase each week with one more until I'm at 4 pills. Well this is night one and I'm trying to amuse myself until things settle down so I can sleep. However I still have a tickle in my through that isn't helping. Lovely.

Update...the first one didn't do any good, the second one didn't either. I'm tired of messing around, so I took a left over pain pill that will knock me out. Just waiting until that happens. Tommorow night I'll start earlier and take three and see what happens. Might call the doc and see if I can for sure. I've got to go to a conference this weekend for work and I sure don't want to deal with this crap....

Update 2...Pain killer worked for a while. Had to get up for a potty break and it hit me again. This is odd since I've been able to sleep well when just taking the pain killers. I don't know if tonight is particularly bad for some reason or what. Thinking back the only think I did that was not normal for me was having a little bit of fountain coke at dinner time. My wife got a big one and we shared. I sure don't remember having that much. I've got to drive for about 2 and a half hours towing my 5th wheel rv tommor...this afternoon. I can't be drowsy for that. GRRRR.

I'm sure this is a common occurance for some of you but I don't often have this much trouble. I'm so sorry for those of you that do. I feel like I should have taken more of the requip, but I don't know for sure.

Trent, so sorry to hear you had such a bad night.

I hope you've contacted your doc about your situation.

I've not taken meds for my rls; hopefully others on the board who have experience taking Mirapex or Requip will jump in here with advice for you.

I just wanted to empathize with you and show you some compassion; I wish I could offer more.

Thankfully, and knock wood, I am able to sleep these days. A couple of years ago I had more problems during the night with rls but that seems to be gone. However, it sure torments me most evenings when I want to relax at home. I'm starting to wonder how much longer I can go without trying the meds route. I'm avoiding that route cause I don't want to deal with the likely side effects and/or possible augmentation with the DAs. The only class of drugs I never seem to read problems about on the board are the Opioids but I doubt my doc would prescribe them for me first. He'd probably want me to go the DA route and then I'd have all the problems associated with them.

I hope you get back on track soon. Please post again if you feel like it, I'd like to know how you are doing.

Kim

Thanks for the kind words. One night the requip worked well, last night not so good. But I took a pain killer and got to sleep. We'll see what happens tonight. By the way, I upped the dose 4x last night. (Doc said it was ok).

Hi Trent,

Just curious, what kind of painkiller are you taking?

Glad you've got something that enables you to sleep.

Morphine 30mg for a degenerative disk and using it for recovery from rotator cuff surgery. Boy it's a life saver!

Forgot to add that it's timed release which is perfect for RLS.
