I've been taking hydrocodone for RLS and the dose seems too low and I'm worried that the unnecessary tylenol in it will cause liver damage. Why take it with that in it if I don't even need that. So I was considering asking my dr. if I could try the duragesic patch in an effort to cut down on pills and get longer lasting relief as it is time released. Anyone tried this for RLS? If so what is your experience with it? Thanks!

Haven't used it and not sure that the risk is worth it to me. My doctor wanted me to give it a try and I declined as long as I can get relief from something else. Check out the website Read the warnings and information there before you try it. It is a medication to be used only after nothing else works. I am taking hydrocodone. I know it has tylenol in it. That is why I take the lowest dose of tylenol available which is 325 mg. And I make sure I don't take anything else with tylenol in it. Maybe you should try methadone. A lot of people seem to get relief with it and it is longer lasting. Good luck!

You may want to ask your doctor about Oxycontin, which is time released Oxycodone.

Thanks for the site tash. I haven't learned about the differences but I wouldn't think that methadone and fentanyl are that different. Like I said though, I haven't learned enough about either of them so I will look for more information on both. I know that oxycodone, methadone and fentanyl are all categorized as pretty potent narcotics so I guess I figured they were pretty similar. As far as side effects, potential for addiction and half-life. I'll have to look into it more. Zach my dr. seems reluctant to prescribe oxycontin, that's why I was going to ask about the patch. I'll do some reading and find out more. Thanks guys!

I can't imagine why he would be more reluctant over one, since they are both used for pretty serious pain and can both be abused in the same manner.

Maybe you might want to ask him/her to discuss it further with you, if you think it's worth it.

I just researched methadone, oxycontin and duragesic and they all list the same side effects, precautions, etc. They all seem about the same. When I read about methadone it actually seemed like that would be the one to use after all else fails. It has the most side effects and adverse reactions listed. Of course it all depends on the individual and what works for them. I'll see what I can try and hopefully something will work effectively without causing too many side effects. Thanks for the info and insight!
