The Future...Drug Delivery Systems

In the future, new drug delivery systems may play an important role in offering more effective and prolonged relief from the symptoms of RLS. Such delivery systems may include patches (transdermal administration) or intramuscular injection of medications that have been formulated to absorb into the bloodstream over a certain amount of time (slow-release depot medications). In addition, anecdotal reports have indicated that, in extremely severe cases, delivering measured amounts of a drug via an implanted pump (epidural infusions) may be effective in relieving RLS symptoms.
