Surgical Techniques
Surgical techniques that have been employed in the treatment of myoclonus include
- Decreasing pressure (decompression) of a peripheral injury in peripheral myoclonus
- Removing an area of damage (lesion) that is putting pressure on the spinal cord (compression lesion in spinal myoclonus)
- Implanting electrodes for deep brain stimulation (DBS) of the thalamus in selected patients with inherited myoclonus-dystonia syndrome that does not respond to treatment with drugs
- Removing and excising abnormal tissue growth (neoplasms) in opsoclonus-myoclonus
